Swedish massage uses rubbing,
kneading, pressing, and gliding strokes to stimulate the skin and nervous
system and soothes the nerves themselves while stretching the ligaments and
tendons, thereby promoting flexibility. Swedish Massage reduces stress, both
emotional and physical, and is recommended in a regular stress
management program.
*Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy is the therapeutic
use of essential oils. An essential oil is an aromatic essence, distilled
from a single botanical source. True essential oils have nothing added to
them, and nothing taken away. Essential oils can have many different effects
on the body, mind
and spirit. They can be sedative or stimulating, some have an analgesic and
antispasmodic effect, most are antibacterial. Essential oils can aid in skin
care and wound healing.
There are many different ways of using essential oils
therapeutically - in baths, inhalations, compresses, creams or lotions, but
perhaps one of the most pleasant, relaxing and therapeutic ways, is through
aromatherapy massage. Shirley Price says: "Nevertheless, where stress and
depression are a major cause of a health imbalance, then, in my opinion, a
full aromatherapy body massage is the best complementary therapy treatment
available. It is also an excellent prophylactic treatment to ensure
continuation of good health."
Deep-tissue massage works to separate underlying muscle
groups that may be too tight due to previous trauma and injury. It can be
painful, as the therapist manipulates the fasica, a thin layer
of supportive connecting
muscle tissue. It's also called myofascial massage or myofascial release
therapy.
Deep Tissue can be a variation of
Swedish and Sports, but the pressure applied is more intense. Specific
areas of the body or "localized areas" are worked for longer periods of
time, such as neck or lower back. The intent is to break down adhesions in
the connective tissues beneath the skin.
